[01/04/24] Seminar on "Human Decisions with Behavioral and Experimental Economics"

In the last decades, Behavioral and Experimental Economics have become very popular. Behavioral Economics adds deviations from rationality and selfishness to game theoretical models, thereby more and more relying on insights from (social) psychology. Experimental Economics investigates behavior in neatly defined, though somewhat artificial environments.

In the talk, I will first give an overview of important insights from Behavioral and Experimental Economics. This will be done by using canonical games. Participants will first be asked for their decisions, which will then be confroneted with insghts from the literature. In the reaamining time, I will talk a bit about my own research which focuses on the institutional derteminants of cooperation and (un)ethical behavior.

About presenter:

Eberhard Feess joined Victoria University as a Professor of Economics in March 2018. Before moving to New Zealand he was as a Professor of Economics at various universities in Germany since 1994. He has PhDs in Sociology and a PhD in Economics. He has published about 85 peer-reviewed articles, including highly ranked journals such as the European Economic Review and Games & Economic Behavior and more than 10 books, focusing on applied microeconomics, the economic analysis of law, game theory, and experimental and behavioral economics. He is carried out many projects for Ministries, the Anti-Trust Agency, and the Agency for International Cooperation (with developing countries) in Germany.

He has supported competition policy in many countries in South East Asia and the Caucasus region. He worked as a consultant for many companies including e.g. VW, Deutsche Lufthansa AG, and Generali. His current research focuses mainly on Behavioral Economics and on factors that influence decisions on morally questionable choices.
